Hematuria

Hematuria means blood in the urine. It is not a disease but can be a sign of a disease. The structure of the urinary tract in the male & in the female is shown in the diagram below. Blood can originate form any of these organs.

Cystoscopy

Cystoscopy means inspecting the inside of the urethra & bladder with a telescope. It is usually performed under sedation & light general anaesthesia but it can also be performed under local anaesthesia, especially in female patients.

Urodynamics

It is a computer-assisted test to assess the behaviour of the urinary bladder. If a patient has symptoms such as urinary frequency/urgency, urinary leakage, poor flow of urination, he should first see an urologist.

BPH

This is a non-cancerous enlargement of prostate gland. Frequent urination, sense of urgency, slow flow & sense of incomplete bladder emptying are its common symptoms. Some patients can have repeated urine infections.

Ca Prostate

Prostate Cancer means cancerous changes involving the Prostate Gland in a male. It is a Malignant Tumor. Any male above the age 60 & sometimes even younger males can develop this Cancer. Roughly speaking, longer you live.

Prostatectomy

Prostatectomy is an Operation for removal of enlarged Prostate Gland. A general or spinal anaesthesia is used. The operation commonly takes 1 to 1 1/2 hours. This disease is seen in elderly patients

Bladder Cancer

This indicates cancerous change in the linning of urinary bladder. It is seen more commonly in men than in women & especially in those beyond the age of 50. The exact cause of bladder cancer is not known.

Renal Calculi

Kidneys are paired bean shaped organs located under the rib cage, on either side of the spine. They perform the function of removing excess water & toxins from the body. Every day about 2 litres of urine is formed by process of filtering & concentrating.

Urinary Incontinence

Loss of control over urination is called urinary incontinence. An extremely distressing condition, it unfortunately does not get the attention it deserves; mainly due to the social stigma associated with it. Worldwide, several million dollars are spent on its treatment.

Urinary Tract Infections

A Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is defined as presence of actively multiplying bacteria (germs) in the Urinary Tract. he normal Urinary Tract consists of two kidneys (which produce the urine), two ureters (for passage of urine from the kidney to the bladder).
